man reviews every item on taco bell's menu... everPermalink: 12/31/2004 04:57:00 PMokay seriously this guy is clearly a complete stoner. yesterday I was at the mall with "jonbetter" chillin' and somehow we got to talking about how the new taco bell commercials are specifically aimed at stoners thanks to catch phrases like "got the munchies?" and "what are you supposed to be?" says the man dressed as a pirate... "I'm full!", says the casually dressed man. "oh.... I'm a pirate.. :)", says the pirate. anyway this guy's got a pretty cool site whipped up on angelfire with some spiffy mspaint graphics. woohoo. "Crazy Gordita's Taco Bell Website!!!" smash: stoners eat at taco bell smash: like their new commercial line-up is totally aimed at stoners Thus Spake Phil: okay so if slackers eat there, what does that make the people that sit around analyzing their commercials? smash: pimp azz muddafuckas Thus Spake Phil: lol i knew you were going to say that so basically, to make a long story short, if dogs market food, it is actually dog food. (-tucker) Link netflix reviews: round #1Permalink: 12/31/2004 02:33:00 AMfor my first dvd round-up... I received two movies: Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story, and Runaway Jury. I. Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story My Rating: 4/5 This movie had a pretty crappy plot, yet that added to the hilarity so it wasn't bad. Typical problem, sees ridiculous solution, stupid things happen, major set-backs, yet every still knows that comedys are almost never tragedies. Welp! Nevertheless, this was a good movie... however make sure you give it your full attention while viewing so you catch all of the jokes. (make some nachos that you can eat while distracted. popcorn can also be used as well. make sure to remain hydrated at all times.) II. Runaway Jury Rating: 2/5 Part of the problem was that I was expecting this movie to be better than it was. It was way too long and lost my interest several times through the movie. Another problem was that I was pretty sure I'd already seen it... that or parts of it... because I recalled what would happen next quite often. Anyway, back to the movie. The story was decent and didn't remind me of anything else I'd seen, but it always seemed like this flick dragged on forreevverrrr liiikkkeee hhhoooowwww iiii'mmmm tyyppinnngg riiighhhhttt noowwwww. Not enough going on... it's hard to call this a thriller, which seems like what it was aiming for... just minus the violence. Therefore, it's called a "drama". :P See it if you'd like, but only if you're interested in law or you really need a nice long movie that you don't have to pay attention to. that's it for now. comments on the others next week. - smash --- Thursday, December 30, 2004
netflixPermalink: 12/30/2004 11:50:00 PMwith some of money I received as a gift over the holidays I decided to take a Netflix trial to try out the service. Sure, they have a *free* trial for two weeks, but I'm not sure if I can see all of the movies that I want to see in that amount of time. we'll see. I'll post reviews of the movies I see in the meantime, and another of the Netflix service. thank you amazon. you made my day.Permalink: 12/30/2004 01:30:00 PMI've never had a hard drive fail, and yesterday I decided that since a lot of the critical data for my project is stored on my laptop, I'd better start backing this up. I bought the original 17-inch powerbook available from apple so I was blessed with Firewire 800 (twice as fast as the original firewire 400)... and boy was it time to start using it. I was originally planning on getting Maxtor's OneTouch backup solution (250GB), but none of maxtor's products had Firewire 800... so I ended up going with a LaCie 250GB USB2.0/Firewire 400/Firewire 800 drive. Can't go wrong there... that'll hook up to about anything. What kind of sucked was that I didn't have Maxtor's "OneTouch" backup software, but I later found out that LaCie offered a freeware backup solution that was fairly similar, so I was set. The LaCie drives were hard to find... every CompUSA across the country was sold out of every size but the 500GB one... which was WAY too expensive... but I later learned that the Apple stores had every size in stock. The problem was that yesterday I had no car because my brother took ours to work. Damn it! So I ended up ordering it from Amazon yesterday afternoon with overnight shipping. By the end of the evening, it hadn't shipped yet according to their order status page (it was listed under "shipping soon", and I was pissed. I assumed it was a mistake because I'd ordered it so early in the day with overnight shipping and they had it in stock, and it seems I was right because I woke up this afternoon (hah) and it had shipped from their warehouse in PA. Nice! It'll be here tonight. new cartoon from seth macfarlanePermalink: 12/30/2004 01:25:00 PMI saw a link today to a piolet episode of "American Dad"... a new cartoon from Seth MacFarlane... the creator of "Family Guy". The animation/drawing is similar, similar families, and similar voices. Funny stuff... seems kind of 60s/70s-ish, but with modern stuff. Not really 100% sure. check it out though. Link stupid hippiesPermalink: 12/30/2004 01:10:00 PMthis is just stupid. these british hippies want to bake their "cosmic bread" but think that building a cellphone tower next to their bakery will screw it up... so they're taking legal action? That'll probably stand-up in court.................. (see linked article) Link thailand... (my story)Permalink: 12/30/2004 12:54:00 PMfor the past few days I've been completely freaked out because I have a really good friend who lives in Thailand, and that entire area is having tsunamis. The death toll is up to almost 120,000 people... it's awful. I was trying to get in touch with my friend because I was afraid she'd been killed, and she wasn't responding to my e-mails. I was freaked, so I gave her cellphone a call. It rang, and rang, then kicked over to voicemail. Not sure what else to do, I sent a text message to her phone... hoping for a reply. Last night, on the way to the movies, my phone chirped... alerting me to a reply to my text message. Giving a sigh of relief, I read that she was fine but her cousins are dead. This is serious stuff, folks. If something like this happened to us, we'd need help too. If you got a few extra bucks, I've got a link here to donate via Amazon. It's fully refundable, and even a just a few dollars makes a difference. Thanks guys. --- Wednesday, December 29, 2004
how long do YOU have to live??Permalink: 12/29/2004 04:38:00 PMyeah so according to www.DeathClock.com I'm underweight and I'm going to die in 2061... August 23, 2061 that is. At this time of posting I have about 1,787,556,240 seconds left to live!! maybe I shouldn't be watching this dumb movie.... it's wasting precious seconds! oh no! the screen savers...nope.Permalink: 12/29/2004 01:33:00 PMeverybody was quick to bash the G4TechTV merger when it first went down, but I held off before the results were clearly visible. I decided I'd give the new hosts a shot, check out the changes, and then make appropriate comments a little later on. Here's my rant. I wouldn't call myself the most diehard TSS fan, but it wasn't a bad show. I remember buying a ReplayTV just to tape the episodes (and a few other things as well). I actually found out about ReplayTVs from TSS. funny. here's a history... if you know all about the G4 merger and that kind of thing... skip down to my rant.for those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, TSS is a show on TechTV (now called G4TechTV) that generally has gadgets, tech tips, and answers live calls.. that kind of thing. this show used to be great, but I have to say that even I've stopped caring about it. the show has a lot of history, though. for a while it was filmed in "the basement" set, before it was moved to san francisco. for those of you who don't know the story, a few months after the brand-new set G4TV "merged" with TechTV to form G4TechTV. G4 realized that they couldn't have a TV network *just* about gaming and decided that merging with TechTV was a good call. I think that the merger was a good idea in theory, but I could not believe the results. First of all, it seemed like G4 became the controlling party in the situation and decided that it was going to get rid of most of the decent TechTV programming and force the G4 stuff upon us loyal viewers. First of all, they torn down the *new* TSS set and build *another one* in Los Angeles and moved the show there. They fired the entire TechTV staff with a few exceptions... mostly being some members of the cast of TSS. TSS remained normal for a while with the new co-host Alex Albrecht (working with the remaining Kevin Rose, who took Leo Laporte's place after he left the show....I never really liked Leo, and it seemed like Kevin knew a lot more than he did anyway), but later on they decided to fire Alex. Why? No idea. Kevin Rose decided that he didn't want to host the show anymore... so G4 brought in these two newbies: Kevin Pereira and Chi-Lan Lieu. Okay, here's where my rant starts. So everyone was bashing Kevin Pereira which I thought was kind of sad, but unfortunately for both of them, the new hosts suck. I'm sorry, but they do. Chi-Lan Lieu is a dumbass and she has a really annoying voice... and Kevin Pereira just isn't TSS material. Like I can't say it any better than that... it's just really sad. I think Kevin Rose and Sarah Lane should host the show and those guys should work in the nook or something. That would be a lot less crappy. Now that the live audience has disappeared... the show seems completely dead. I have no idea why they ditched the audience, but it's gone and so is the show's charm. The new hosts have got to go. I feel so bad for the TSS veterans like Yoshi and even Dan Huard who just got fired like that. It sucks! I would have been mad pissed if some new tool CEO comes in and just bounced everyone like that. The G4 programming sucks. TechTV's was *much* better. As far as I know, The Screen Savers and X-Play are the only shows still in production that are left over from the TechTV days... even though TSS is totally different. What was the point of this merger? G4's attempt to gain viewers failed miserably. Now I have two channels on my cable box with the same crap. I don't give a crap about gaming except for an occasional PS2 title... and now I have to listen to morons talk on shows like Judgement Day... which in my opinion is nothing but a crappy spin-off of X-Play with no hot Morgan Webb on it. In conclusion, the balance at the old TechTV was good... one or two shows about gaming (X-Play), and then the rest about other "techy" things like gadgets, tech tips, live calls, and cool stuff. Now, we've got another channel full of crap gaming footage. I mean come on... they have a show where all they do is show footage of gameplay. That's just so stupid. What a waste. TechTV RIP. --- Tuesday, December 28, 2004
no carry-out after 10?Permalink: 12/28/2004 10:34:00 PMMy favorite pizza place is definitely Domino's because it tastes great and it doesn't make me sick like Papa Gino's. (I also like California Pizza Kitchen's BBQ Chicken pizza.. but I don't think they deliver) So tonight I was at home for dinner and my mom made a turkey pie from leftovers... not bad but not filling. I was kinda bummed out... so I called up Domino's to order some cheesy bread. Apparantly, since the last time I ordered cheesy bread, they introduced "small" and "large" sizes... the large being the size of a small pizza. (the small size is the original breadstick size) The large size costs about $7... but the small size costs its original $3 or $4. Anyway, this is completely irrelevant. So I ordered a small and asked for carry-out because they wouldn't deliver just cheesybread. So then the guy's boss starts yelling at him and he tells me that there's no carry-out after 10. The store's open until 11. I don't understand WHY they wouldn't allow carry-out after 10.. I mean I doubt they would want to be out on deliveries past closing time... would they? Anyway, now I'm eating peanut butter out of the JAR... and I'm pissed. This sucks! "Can your stick figures RAWK?"Permalink: 12/28/2004 09:39:00 PMI was crusing shockwave the other day and found this pretty cool contest that HP sponsored... a music video contest. one of the finalists did some pretty sick stick-figure animation... I was really impressed. check it out. (the other videos that won are kind of stupid... this one should have taken home the trophey... $15,000! ...at least they got a little bit of cash though.)
Link no applejobs... thank *you*.Permalink: 12/28/2004 10:49:00 AMyeah so I just applied for a job at every apple store in the boston area... including the new one at South Shore Plaza that's currently being built. (I saw the big black plywood housing when I was buying some new kicks this weekend) Of course, apple decided that it was necessary to e-mail me a generic confirmation for every single job I checked off.
however, thank you "applejobs". I hope you hire me. :) ascii moviesPermalink: 12/28/2004 08:55:00 AMASCII = the typical symbols a computer can display... roman letters, numbers and symbols. you get the idea. so anyway, this site has a bunch of clips from movies such as The Matrix (an ASCII clip), Finding Nemo (an ASCII clip), Spiderman (an ASCII clip), and Spiderman 2 (an ASCII clip)... transformed completely into ASCII characters. they must have some program that does that... but hey... that's still pretty cool. is it illegal to put movies online if they're in ASCII? hmmm... :P too bad there's no sound. - smash Link old contentPermalink: 12/28/2004 05:56:00 AMlater on I'm going to be putting together some links to some of my old content, like the movies I had posted. for now, you can access the old homepage (version 6.4) with this link for now: index64.php (it still has all of the old content on it, of course) new apple store being builtPermalink: 12/28/2004 05:43:00 AMI was at the mall buying some kicks and I noticed that Apple was building a new store at a nearby mall, South Shore Plaza in Braintree, MA. Sweet. Now maybe I can score a job while working on my latest project. Better update my resumé... I happened to take a picture:
ipodlinux installer 0.3aPermalink: 12/28/2004 05:36:00 AMI saw a post on slashdot about the latest version of iPodLinux being reviewed on xlr8yourmac, so I'm giving everyone a heads up that you can dual boot into linux mode and keep the original Apple iPod OS on there... a good call. Hoorah. I've got it on my iPod... it's got some neat features. Check out the linked review for download locations and other features.

Link the different district still sucks.Permalink: 12/28/2004 02:22:00 AMwell I was buying domain names in bulk at one point and I picked up these URLs. why? well I agree that it really wasn't very nice... but the owner's kind of a prick... so why not be a prick back? :P (my thinking exactly) he was bragging about how he was buying lots of new stuff (see the linked pages for more information), so I decided to spend a few bucks of my own on these domain names to host my page at.. check them out: http://www.differentdistrict.org/ http://www.differentdistrict.net/ the page's original address: http://www.smashsworld.com/whyddsucks/ (the "why the different district sucks" page was created before I started blogging again... so there's nothing on my blog about it in case you were about to start looking. if you want more information on why the page is there and why I spent a few minutes making it, visit the link.) - smash Google in 1337Permalink: 12/28/2004 02:05:00 AM`/0 |\|0r|\/|411`/ 1 |)0|\|'7 |º057 1|\| 1337 8|_|7 900973 |)1|) 50|\/|3 cr42`/ 5|-|12217 7|-|3 07|-|3r |)4`/!!! translation: "yo normally I don't post in "leet" but google did some crazy shizzit the other day!!!" Link new blog... a new chapter.Permalink: 12/28/2004 01:26:00 AMoh boy, a site that I don't have to design! right now I'm using a pretty slick template from the blogger selection to power the GUI of this new project, but I'm not sure how long it's going to last. Don't expect anything, but you never know what I'm working on in my free time. very rarely do I mention anything from my offline life in the public, but recently I've left college to persue other opportunities. the school I was at will take me back since I left in good standings, but I don't plan on it. all of the private schools that my folks sent me to, and I sat through, tired me out and since college was no different... that was the end of that. right now I'm working on a project... or hardly working as I'd call it. raising investment cash is a PAIN. it's always tough to convince people about just another idea when you know it's great and have no prior experience.... wish me luck. my web-designing days are over for now. other than a few things that I do for myself, I don't really advertise... so my clients are me and people who come to me on their own. I guess I'm done with that for now... and probably forever. it's hard to find inspiration when you're focused on something else... and/or depressed. this is it... this is me moving on. the only things left here are my old pages from version 6.4 with all of the videos and other things. I'll transport some of that stuff over a little later. for now, you can see everything here: index64.php talk to you all soon, smash |
