Napster-To-GO Update

Permalink: 5/31/2005 07:36:00 PM

Register for Napster-To-GO with this promotional code (or even better, register while signing-up for a free XBOX 360) and get THIRTY days free instead of only seven: (woo-hoo!)
IRIVER7LFT7
-- this offer doesn't expire until April 2006, so enjoy.

Okay so now that you've got 30 days of free Napster, HOW do you burn the CDs of the music without paying!? You don't have time to search around and research everything! Here's what you've gotta do:

What you need to know is that the old Windows Media DRM hole has been closed -- it's what people used with Winamp to convert the Napster files straight to unprotected MP3s and WAVs.

HOWEVER-- The analog loop-hole is and will always still be there. There is a program called 'tunebite' that automates the whole process. The only problem is it costs like $10 and that's a total rip-off. However, I'm including the following numbers entered below...... hmmm...... what could these be used for? 172278660
Here's a copy of tunebite that... is good..... isn't that great?

Amateur Roof-Top U2 Concert

Permalink: 5/31/2005 07:22:00 PM

For obvious reasons, this may be the coolest thing I've seen this week.

Back in January, U2 announced the dates of their "Vertigo" world tour. I contemplated trying to purchase tickets for the May 21 gig at Madison Square Garden. I was a big U2 fan growing up, and MSG is right across the street from my apartment. I ultimately decided it wasn't worth the steep ticket price. The tickets to the event sold out literally in seconds. As I was thinking about the show, a few things occurred to me:

- U2 is playing right across the street from where I live.
- I have rooftop access at my four-story apartment building.
- U2 is famous for playing on rooftops.

It seemed obvious that "U2" would have to play an unannounced gig on my rooftop an hour before the doors opened at the Garden.

Napster-To-GO vs. iTunes

Permalink: 5/31/2005 12:08:00 AM

When I was signing up to get a free XBOX 360 on Gratis' latest site, they had an offer for Napster-To-GO... it was like a free seven day trial of all you can eat downloads, then 15 bucks a month after.

Although I don't plan on renewing or paying for anything on Napster, I'm all-over the all-you-can-eat downloads. Whenever you use iTunes it's always so stressful since you're paying for music you can't really get a feel for -- a 30 second sample just isn't enough. I love having the Napster-To-GO Trial to preview, then being able to buy whatever music doesn't suck on iTunes later on. Depending on your success, you might actually SAVE money by paying the $15 a month so you won't get stuck downloading songs or albums that actually suck.

So, how could iTunes implement a fantastic service without the limitations? Let's see -- what if they threw together an option where you could return music within 7 days or something if it sucked for store credit. (would appear as a gift certificate) Or even a similar service to Napster's would cause quite a stir... Napster wouldn't have an ad campaign anymore! Ha. Steve, say the word and finish burying the cat. (ouch, that was a low-blow)

One last thing I noticed, Napster's music store's interface was a lot nicer than Apple's -- they could really take a page out of their book and make things a lot less bland. I love how Napster's appeals to teens like myself, yet isn't over-teenish. Pretty slick if you ask me.

Anyway, if you want a Napster-To-GO free trial -- check it out. You've really got nothing to lose for the first week, just make sure you make up your mind before then. All-in-all, I've really enjoyed my "iTunes Accomplice" over the past few days and found it a great way to discover some new and old music from my favorite artists.

Okay, here goes.

For starters, again, my blog's been crap lately. However, it's because I've been working on some stuff and haven't had time to post or focus on the random stuff I usually post. Anyway, here go the regular ol' posts for everyone. No more crappy moblogging filling up my blog and such.

Guys, I know my blog has been kinda crappy lately... I've been really busy. I'm finishing up a project at the moment and I'm launching a new version of my site afterwards. Should be a lot better, stay tuned.

Listen to Podcasts on your Cellphone...

Permalink: 5/11/2005 09:12:00 AM

mobile17 offers a unique new method to podcasting -- downloading posts as a series of ringtones, which you can either play out-loud or listen to through a headset right on your cellphone. What's really cool is that it actually lets you grab posts from up to five of your favorite feeds on-the-go, right using your phone's web browser.

"Is that an AM radio? Why no, it's my cellphone." mobile17... formerly smashTheTONES... now lets you put almost any podcast on your phone as a series of ringtones, for free of course. The coolest feature is, you can store your five favorite podcasts to your account and grab new audio posts straight from your phone's browser. Of course, it still lets you create free ringtones and graphics from your music and photos.

In addition, you can earn cash by allowing fans to send your band's or website's music, artwork, photos, and animations, to their mobile phones. It's free and easy to setup, and is perfect for your photos, art, music, or podcast.

High-Res Images

Permalink: 5/06/2005 10:02:00 PM

Here are some higher, non-camera-phone-moblogged pictures of my new car. (a Volkswagon GTI VR6 '03 -- 200HP V6, 6 speed, 2.8L, 17-inch wheels... -- totally clean.)

Rather than decking the car out with a body-kit, wing, neons, and all of that NFSU underground crap, I decided to keep things low-scale by just putting some blue neons under the dash. Took me like 15 minutes, and cost me $40 (total). They hook-up via the cigarette lighter, so I just got three-way-adapter for the lighter plug so I could hook up both my neons and my radar detector as well.

Speaking of radar detectors... I recommend the RMR-C430 from Rocky Mountain Radar... however since it has a radar scrambler in it, it's illegal in some states. Make sure you're not in California, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Nebraska, or Virginia (and Washington D.C.) while using this thing. Apparently, how it works is it produces a ZERO reading on the cop's radar gun. I'm not sure how it works, but it seems pretty damn good and they have a 1 year ticket-rebate program... if you get a ticket, they'll pay for it! Just remember to slow down if you hear beeps and see lights flashing on your dash. ;)
-- Just a tip. According to the company, Amazon and many others are "unauthorized" retailers of their products. This is because they offer them at rock bottom prices... we're talking almost 50% of what authorized providers charge. I suggest you do NOT put an unauthorized retailer on your "ticket rebate registration" or they might give you problems. Just search around and find some authorized retailers (just check and find ones that *aren't* on RMR's unauthorized list -- goto www . rockymountainradar . com for more info) and just use their phone number instead. Ta-da.
-- Also, if you do buy from an "unauthorized retailer", make sure it's a big name. If you buy from a small company, they could disappear... or worse, send you a fake RMR product! That'd suck!

The "Monsoon" stereo in the car is so good I don't have to swap that out, either. Buying a great car SAVES you money 'cause you don't have to soup-it-up!

Just a note, in some places blue lights can be illegal 'cause they're similar to police cruisers' lights... even though they're not rotating... flashing... etc. I didn't think this was a big deal since my dash lighting is blue and red anyway, but if you do this to your car, I suggest you mount the lights low down so that they're not shining out of the car and attracting attention. Of course, I'm not responsible if you get a ticket or something... even though I really can't see that happening to anybody since the lights are inside your vehicle and hardly visible. So... nice. Enjoy.

"Word of Silence... ooohhh NOOWWWW!!! .. Ohh, my, what's wrong with you..."

" Shinin' " the first, and best, song from Lumines (the Tetris-like game on the PSP... it's also the best game on the PSP) is stuck in my head. Turns out this song is by Mondo Grosso, a Japanese Electronica/House group.

It's a pretty awesome song, if you can't find it I suggest you download it. *cough p2p cough* I've linked to the Amazon CD Single IMPORT though, which has four different versions... including the instrumental. Great for driving.
